BLAST Premier Overhauls Format for 2025 Counter-Strike Series

BLAST Premier, the global Counter-Strike tournament series, announced significant changes to its 2025 format during the Spring Final at Wembley Arena, London. The new structure promises more broadcast hours, events, and teams, with a notable return of a Major to North America for the first time in seven years.

The BLAST.tv Major 2025, scheduled for June in Austin, Texas, will be held at the Moody Center. This move follows Valve's announcement last August to open the Counter-Strike ecosystem from 2025 onwards. In response, BLAST Premier has introduced a new format where each event stands alone, crowning its own winner.

Starting in 2025, BLAST Premier will host six tournaments annually, split across two seasons. The series will include the BLAST Bounty, a new prize pool system. The Bounty features 32 teams, including the top 30 from the Valve Global Rankings and two wildcards. Matches will start online, transitioning to a LAN setting for the quarter-finals and beyond in Copenhagen.

Additionally, the BLAST Open will see 16 teams compete, with 12 qualifying via rankings and four through regional qualifiers. The playoffs will be held in major cities, culminating in single-elimination finals.

Andrew Haworth, VP of Ecosystems for BLAST, Valve and Riot Games, noted the changes aim to make the competition more dynamic and engaging for fans and players alike. With these changes, BLAST Premier aims to create a more competitive and financially sustainable ecosystem for Counter-Strike, offering stronger incentives for teams and enhancing the overall tournament experience.

Epic Games Store and Fortnite Set to Return to iOS in Japan by 2025 Amid New App Store Legislation

Epic Games has announced that the Epic Games Store and Fortnite will be available on iOS in Japan by late 2025. This follows Japan's new law, akin to the EU's Digital Markets Act, enabling third-party app stores on the App Store. Malaysia’s FELDA Nation Esports Championship Pre-Launch Announced

Esports Integrated (ESI), in collaboration with the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) and the FELDA Youth Council Malaysia (MBFM), announced the pre-launch of the FELDA Nation Esports Championship during the FELDA Settlers' Day 2024. The event, held at Menara FELDA, is expected to draw 500,000 visitors from July 12 to 14, 2024. Highlights include esports competitions, master classes, career exhibitions, sports contests, food festivals, and more. Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be present at the event on July 14. Featuring Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and PUBG Mobile, the championship aims to empower FELDA youth, with cash prizes totaling RM70,000 (approximately $15,000 USD).

IOC to Vote on Establishing Olympic Esports Games Next Month

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will vote next month on creating the Olympic Esports Games, IOC President Thomas Bach announced Friday. This initiative aims to establish a premier competition for gamers worldwide. The IOC has been exploring esports since forming a dedicated commission and launching the Olympic Virtual Series in 2021. Bach noted the move as a response to the digital revolution. The vote will take place during the Paris Olympics, with a potential host already under consideration. The new esports structure will operate separately from the traditional Olympic Games model, as the IOC seeks to engage younger audiences.
