How To Breed Turtles In Minecraft

Turtles are a passive mob in Minecraft found in beach biomes. Turtles are the only source of Scutes in Minecraft. Scutes are used to craft Turtle Shells, used to make potions of the Turtle Master which grant Slowness and Resistance. They also drop 1-3 experience orbs and seagrass. They also drop 1 bowl when struck by lightning. Turtles and turtle eggs have several predators including zombies, zombie variants like husks and drowned and Skeleton and variants like Strays and Wither Skeletons. They are also prey to passive mobs like ocelots, cats and wolves. Here is how to breed turtles in Minecraft.

Where do Turtles spawn in Minecraft

Turtles usually spawn in small groups of up to 5 in the Overworld during the daytime. However, they do not spawn in the snowy variant or stony shores. Beaches are common coastal biomes in Minecraft where they spawn. In Java Edition, turtles spawn at light levels greater than 8, on sand blocks less than 4 blocks above sea level. In Bedrock Edition, turtles spawn in groups of 2–6, at light level 7 or higher, at Y= 60–67. 10% of turtles that spawn are babies.

How to breed turtles in Minecraft

You can get two turtles to breed by feeding two turtles seagrass. This will cause them to mate and one of the turtles will get turtle eggs in their inventory.

You can breed turtles in Minecraft by feeding them seagrass,

This turtle will begin traveling back to their home beach (where they first spawned) and look for a nearby sand block to lay eggs.

A turtle carrying eggs will go back to its home beach and start digging to lay them.

A turtle will always lay eggs within 9 blocks from where it is born. The turtle will then dig around the area a few times and lay 1-4 turtle eggs.

Turtle eggs take between 3-4 ingame days to hatch.

Turtle eggs will start hatching by cracking. Cracking occurs randomly, with an egg hatching after cracking 3 times. When multiple eggs are hatching, they all hatch simultaneously. Turtle eggs grow faster during the night and usually take about 4 to 5 days to hatch. Turtles have a 90-second cooldown after breeding in Bedrock Edition, and a five-minute cooldown in Java Edition.
