MSI 2023: Riot Games Previews LoL Patch 13.8, Addresses Solo Queue Outliers

The first interregional competition of Season 13 of League of Legends, the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) 2023, is just a few weeks away and Riot Games has been working on the game’s meta leading up to this international event. After a couple of patches, Riot Games stated that it is happy with the way the meta is looking and that in LoL Patch 13.8, it is only addressing a few Solo Queue outliers and adding a few more jungle champions into the current meta. 

As per routine, Riot Games Lead Designer Matt “Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison shared the patch preview on Twitter. He said, “MSI Patch 13.8! The meta is looking pretty good overall. We're adding a few more champs into the Jungle meta and addressing some weak/strong outliers for Solo Q…”

In LoL Patch 13.8, a total of fifteen champions are getting changes, while a majority of them are buffs. Here’s everything you need to know about the patch.

Champion buffs in LoL Patch 13.8

For your reference, the win rates of these champions in Platinum and above tiers in Solo Queue for LoL Patch 13.7 (current patch) have been mentioned. The following are the champions who are getting buffed in the upcoming LoL Patch 13.8:

• Nidalee: 49.54% (Jungle)

• Lillia: 49.44% (Jungle)

• Poppy: 49.99% (Jungle)

• Leona: 48.98% 

• Alistar: 50.09%

• Ezreal: 48.48%

• Janna: 50.66%

• Garen: 48.45%

• Kha'Zix: 50.21%

• Zoe: 51.38%

• Kog'Maw: 50.85%

Phroxzon reflected that the previous Kha’Zix changes landed well but opined that he needed a boost of power. He wrote, “Kha'Zix changes from W evolve to Q landed well, but he needs a little more power.”

Nerfs in LoL Patch 13.8

The following are the champions who are getting nerfed along with their win rates in LoL Patch 13.8 in Platinum and above tiers:

• Rakan: 52.28%

• Jarvan IV: 52.61%

• Malphite: 52.23%

• Aurelion Sol: 50.43%

Notably, all the above-mentioned champions are currently rated S+ tier.

The only item getting adjusted is Cosmic Drive in LoL Patch 13.8. 

Even though it is a fairly straightforward and short patch in general, it will be playing a major role in the meta of MSI 2023.

LoL Patch 13.8 release date and time

According to the official patch schedule, League of Legends Patch 13.8 will go live on 19th April and it will be rolled out on the Oceanic servers first. Here are the patch times for the other regions:

• North America: 3 am PT 

• Europe West (EUW): 5 am GMT

• Europe and Nodic East (EUNE): 3 am CET

• Korea: 8 am KST

Note that the servers will face approximately three hours of maintenance and downtime before the patch goes live.
