Global Esports Becomes First Indian Org to Join Valorant International League

India-based esports company Global Esports has officially become the first Indian organization to participate in the Valorant International league. Valorant has become a popular title within the esports and gaming community in India and it is currently one of the most played games in the country with a massive fan base. Riot Games previously included India as one of the eligible countries in the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) and now we have an Indian esports organization becoming a part of the International League.

Global Esports will be the only South Asian representative

Global Esports has been selected as the sole Indian team in the International League and the only team from South Asia to compete in the new league. Valorant Champions Tour broke viewership records during the world championship at Istanbul and the new league will offer an even larger platform for teams to showcase their skills and it could possibly be the biggest year yet for Valorant esports.

Global Esports is the only team that has represented India/South Asia at Asia-Pacific events but it has not made it to a global event yet. With the announcement of the new Asia-Pacific league, Global Esports has the opportunity to prove itself and compete at the highest level of play.

The team will set up its operations in Korea, which will be the hub city for the Asia-Pacific league. Other participants in the Asia-Pacific league include:

  • Zeta Division

  • Detonation Gaming

  • Gen.G

  • T1

  • DRX

  • Team Secret

  • Paper Rex

  • Rex Regum Qeon

  • Talon Esports

The leagues will continue to grow with more teams being added to the circuit. The regional Challengers circuit will keep growing to make room for up-and-coming talent.

According to Riot Games, the selected organizations share the following characteristics:

  • Organizations who share Riot Games’ values of always putting fans first, celebrate the diverse community, and are committed to supporting pros

  • Organizations who have created a strong connection with fans through engaging content, a compelling brand, and an exciting roster

  • Organizations who build for the long-term, with a focus on sustainability

Riot Games also revealed the selection criteria for all of the above teams and mentioned, “It’s worth addressing directly that while we respect and celebrate past competitive performance, it was not a key consideration in our decision - as we instead focused on an organization’s ability to create the most compelling VCT for fans in the future."
