Sea of Thieves is an action-adventure pirate game with an emphasis on exploration and co-op elements. This title was developed by Rare and published by Microsoft Studios in 2018 for Xbox One and PC and it quickly became one of the most highly-rated titles for Xbox, garnering the attention of millions of players worldwide. That being said, there have been rumors swirling around, stating that Microsoft has considered bringing this live-service game to its competitor’s platforms such as Sony’s PlayStation and Nintendo’s Switch handheld.
Sea of Thieves Might Get a PlayStation Port in Early 2024
As reported first by Eurogamer, Game Journalist Jeff Grub stated that Microsoft is considering the possibility of porting Sea of Thieves over to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch on his Game Mess Mornings podcast on 8th January.
Following this, GameFile also stated that more Xbox-exclusive titles might also make their way to other platforms, but when it comes to Sea of Thieves, GameFile’s Stephen Tolito said that he had only heard about a PlayStation port which might arrive in the early months of this year.
As mentioned earlier, Sea of Thieves was developed as a live-service title that became extremely popular, captivating more than 30 million players as of 2022. Rare Studios has also consistently provided newer updates with fresh content, so that number has surely gone up over the last two years.

While it is highly unlikely that Microsoft will bring newer Xbox and PC exclusive titles to its competitor’s platforms, it is entirely possible that Sea of Thieves will get ported over, as it is now a six-year-old title. Moreover, it would be a brand-new title for gamers who exclusively play on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles, and considering that it is a live-service game, this would be a lucrative move from Microsoft’s end. It would also be a great way to further increase Sea of Thieves’ player count and create an even bigger community, spanning all major platforms.
That is pretty much everything you need to know about Sea of Thieves possibly making its way to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Although these rumors seem enticing, there seems to be no concrete evidence that Microsoft is actively working on porting the game over to other platforms. There has also been no official announcement from the studio stating the same, so please take this information with a grain of salt.
