Yatoro Mentions the Best Roles for Gaining MMR

There are five different roles to choose from in Dota 2, and players often debate which role is the simplest to gain matchmaking rating (MMR) in ranked games. During a recent Twitch livestream, Team Spirit's carry player, Illya "Yatoro" Mulyarchuk, discussed which role he believes is the easiest to rank up. In Yatoro's opinion, the midlane is the easiest lane to outplay the opponent, but its final outcome is also affected by the rotation of the supports. Regarding the other core roles, Yatoro commented that winning the lane as an offlaner is comparatively easier than as a position one.

Yatoro shares his thoughts on gaining MMR using the three core roles

In a recent Twitch livestream, Yatoro talked about how the midlaner has one of the best chances of leading the game for the team given his 1v1 setup

“On mid, you can just outplay a person 1x1, but a lot depends on the supports there: whether they control runes or not, whether they come to mid or not. In any case, you can play from that too.”

As for the comparison between a carry and an offlaner, Yatoro took into account the inherent strengths of position three heroes, as well as the dependability on the support for a carry player when explaining how playing as an offlaner can deliver better results.

It's more difficult to augment on a carry than on a position three. You have a weak hero, you depend on the support very much. You won't get a Portal ward, you'll get beaten by a 5, ***, and even in a favorable matchup you can't beat the lane, so to speak. You're gonna have to come back.”

It's no secret that Yatoro is among the best players in Dota 2, currently holding the 17th position on the Dota 2 MMR Leaderboards in Europe. The chart shows that the player’s opinion of the midlane being one of the more convenient roles is true, based on the top 10 players who are predominantly position one and midlaners. However, there are not many offlaners on this list.

Yatoro is currently competing for Team Spirit and and the squad recently resumed competitive play after a hiatus following the International 12 win. Spirit last played in the DreamLeague Season 22: Eastern Europe Closed Qualifier, where it progressed to the main event, and it will most likely play in the ESL One Birmingham 2024 qualifiers next.
