The days of FIFA are behind us as EA has rebranded their popular football franchise to EA Sports FC 24. This new installment brings loads of changes to a franchise that has been successfully running for over two decades. This title brings overhauls to various fan-favorite game modes along with graphical upgrades and improved movement mechanics, thanks to technologies like Hypermotion V, Sapien Tech, etc.
The game is currently available on older-gen consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well as on current-gen consoles like the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S. Although they are similarly priced there are some stark differences between the two versions. Let’s take a look.
EA Sports FC 24 on Current Gen and Older Gen Consoles
The most evident difference between these consoles simply comes down to their age. While PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S were released less than three years ago, the older-gen consoles were released a decade ago, which understandably makes them fall short when it comes to both hardware and software.
Similarities Between the Two Console Generations
Although the older consoles fall behind when it comes to graphical fidelity, players can still enjoy all game modes that EA FC 24 has to offer. Those who pre-ordered the game got early access on both console generations. You also get crossplay support, although it is only between PS4 and Xbox One users. Regardless of the differences, the core gameplay is still carried over to the older-gen consoles, offering players an immersive football experience.
Moreover, both PS5 and PS4 will have the same FUT transfer market. The same applies to Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One as well.
Dissimilarities Between the Two Console Generations
Firstly, let’s get all the graphical differences out of the way. It is clear that the current-gen consoles are far superior in terms of their hardware and this translates into elements such as resolution, loading times, animations, lighting, game physics, etc. While the older consoles can maintain 60 FPS on 1080p, the newer consoles are capable of maintaining the same FPS at 4K. You can also quickly jump into the game or transition between the various menus in the game, thanks to the SSDs on the newer consoles that offer blazing-fast transfer speeds.
Moreover, the crossplay functionality allows players on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC to play together. You will also miss out on technologies like Hypermotion V, AcceleRATE 2.0, and PlayStyles if you are running the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One which is a huge disadvantage.
Is It Worth Upgrading to the Current-Gen Consoles?
EA Sports FC 24 will cost the same on both console generations where you will have to pay USD $69.99 for the Standard edition and USD $99.99 for the Ultimate edition. If you are someone who plays the game casually and doesn’t mind all the graphical differences, you will still enjoy playing EA FC 24 on your PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. The game also comes with dual entitlement, which means if you were to upgrade to the current-gen consoles, you would get all of the updates it offers, at no additional cost.
However, if you consider yourself more of a hardcore fan of the series, you will love all the technological advancements that the newer consoles bring to the table.
