OG is well-known for making surprising roster changes, and as part of its most recent lineup makeover, a highly talented player in Adrián "Wisper" Dobles relocated from South America (SA) to Europe (EU). A few weeks into his time with the team, Wisper spoke on OG's YouTube channel about his experience so far and his perspective on the change in the region. As the Bolivian offlaner noted, he was nervous about joining the organization because of its reputation, the language barrier, and the regional change, but a comfortable environment provided by OG has helped him adapt. As time goes on, Wisper believes that he will be able to learn a great deal and develop his confidence and skills here.
Wisper is nervous about joining OG but believes things will get easier with time
Due to the fact that an SA player moving to Europe is unheard of in Dota 2 professional teams, Wisper is nervous. Even so, OG has provided him with a lot of comfort.
“Regarding everything right now, I must admit I am a bit nervous, to put it in a way. I think it’s because it is something very new - traveling, coming here, meeting new people. Everyone is very nice. Luckily for me, every time I have gone to a new place, everyone has been very nice, very cool. Everyone tries to make you feel as comfortable as possible, you know? I don’t think there’s a better way to describe it. It’s always been like this. I think it’s a bit of good luck.”
He was also jittery in the first scrims with a major stage where he wants to perform well, but familiarity with the surroundings and teammates is gradually building his confidence.
"I think at first, I was very nervous during scrims. Lots of nervousness because of the language, and the fear of failing. Not sure if it is actually fear of failing or what but things are getting better as days go by. I think it’s easier as days go by and you feel more comfortable as you get to know everyone, and you also feel more confident in yourself too.”
Furthermore, Wisper remarked that he not only changed locations but also became a part of OG, a team that has won The International (TI) twice. This has added an extra layer of intensity to his experience. However, over time, he hopes to grow professionally and as an individual in this team.
“I don’t know, coming from so far…during the flight, I was constantly thinking to myself - is it really happening? Is this real? Because playing for a team that has won TI twice - I don’t know how to explain it. And also being able to play with people with so much experience, who have won tournaments. It’s like entering a new world where you will learn lots of new things where all of them know many things that maybe are unknown to SA yet or things that aren’t really implemented - both inside and outside the game, like habits and such.”
Wisper and OG will need time to gel as a team, especially with so much new blood on the team, which will be working closely with Sébastien "Ceb" Debs who is playing position five. They did not have the best debut, as they did not qualify for ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 but they will attempt to bounce back in the next event, as they have done several times in the past.
