BLAST The Draft Season 1 kicked off with a double-elimination bracket with four teams starting from the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals, Gods Reign, WahWah, Pak Boyz, and Marcos Gaming, while the remaining two teams directly started from the Upper Bracket Semifinals, True Rippers and Come Mid.
Marcos Gaming defeated two Pakistani teams, Pak Boyz and Come Mid, with clean scorelines to reach the Upper Bracket Final where they took on True Rippers.
The two top Indian seeds put on quite the show as the best-of-three series went down to the wire. An overtime thriller was played on the third and final map, Inferno, but Marcos Gaming lost the game and dropped down to the lower bracket.
They fought back from this position to whitewash Pak Boyz for the second time and made their way to the grand final where they faced True Rippers once again.
The best-of-five finals did not disappoint and lived up to all the hype, going all the way down to the fifth and final map. Marcos Gaming won the first two games on Vertigo and Ancient to take the upper hand, but ended up losing the next two which resulted in the series getting levelled at 2-2.
Everyone was looking forward to a banger of a finish on Overpass. Unfortunately, it was a one-sided runaway performance by Marcos who ended up winning the series and with it the tournament as well.
The team from India was crowned as the champion of BLAST The Draft Season 1 and ended up walking away with $20,000 USD in prize money.
The first season of this interesting tournament was brilliant and showed the potential that the South Asian region possesses in competitive CS2.
This time teams from India and Pakistan only were allowed to participate in the tournament, it will be interesting to see if more countries get a chance to compete in the next season of this event.
