Acheron and Aventurine are the two new 5-star characters set to arrive in Honkai: Star Rail patch 2.1. If you are torn between the two and are wondering which character you should pull for, here are some talking points that might help you make your decision. You should only pull for characters you like so if you are already leaning towards one of the two options, you should just follow your gut feeling. If you are looking to pick on based on "meta' relevancy or pull value, here's what you need to know.
Acheron vs Aventurine in Honkai Star Rail: Who Should You Pull?
The short version of this discussions is that you should get Aventurine if you do not have two solid sustains. He has far better pull value than Acheron for players who do not have defensive units.
Even if we overlook the fact that he has follow-up synergies with Topaz and Dr. Ratio, he can easily stack a massive amount of Defence (DEF) and grant you shields that are hard to chew through.
He also automatically grants shields at the start of battles and you do not even need to use a Technique like Gepard. While Aventurine does not have a cleanse in his kit, he grants a massive amount of Effect RES to allies which can prevent debuffs from being applied in the first place. While it's not guaranteed protection like Fu Xuan's Matrix, it is nothing to scoff at.
If you don't have a 5-star limited sustain unit, he is undoubtedly the character to go for. If you have just one limited sustain unit, he is still a strong consideration. If you happen to have two sustain units already that comfortably carry you in all content, Acheron becomes a much more appealing option.
Acheron on the other hand is shaping up to be the strongest AoE DPS in the game at E0 provided you can build a team around her. She requires two Nihility characters and enough debuffs on the team to maximize her damage output.
You can create a free-to-play team around her with Guinaifen, Pela and Gallagher and it should perform quite well but Acheron can get much stronger if you have Silver Wolf and Pela in your party for 100% DEF shred. When you completely negate enemy DEF and also consider the fact that Acheron's Ultimate ignores weakness types, you should be able to breeze through all content without worrying about shield types.
Her pull value goes down a lot if you already have the likes of Kafka (with Black Swan) or Jing Yuan as Lightning DPS options on your account. But if you don't have a strong Lightning DPS, she can easily carry you through all content.
Verdict: Who Should You Pull?
If we talk about pull value alone, Aventurine gets our recommendation considering he is our first 5-star limited shielder with extremely potent shielding capabilities. But it comes down to what sustain units you already have. Acheron is by all means an incredible unit that is likely to be the top dog in DPS charts for patches to comes and if you are lacking a Lightning DPS, she gets a very strong recommendation from us.
