Mizkif & His Community Raise $80,000 for Turkey and Syria

Twitch has been a pivotal platform to raise awareness on global causes for a very long time now. Apart from being an entertainment and streaming platform, creators have been using it for fundraisers and for good causes. In the wake of the disastrous earthquakes and aftershocks that hit Turkey and Syria, many streamers started fundraisers to aid relief efforts and help organizations. One of the streamers to raise money for Turkey and Syria is Matthew “Mizkif” Rinaudo, streamer and co-founder of the content creation group OTK [One True King]. The streamer, along with his community, raised over $80,000 USD for the cause.

Late on 10th February, Mizkif tweeted, “Proud of my community ❤️ My heart goes out to those in Turkey and Syria,” and posted a screenshot of the money they raised together.

Mizkif raises over $80K in a 26-hour stream

Mizkif streamed for 26 hours straight on Twitch whilst raising money for his Turkey-Syria earthquake fundraiser. His initial goal was to hit $20,000 USD but the community raised that amount in under three hours. Notably, for every milestone achieved, Mizkif had a set of tasks to do. The task for hitting $20K was to let his friend Russel sit on his lap for three minutes.

The following were some of his other tasks:

  • $30,000 USD: Malena [Malena Tudi] Dyes Mizkif’s hair

  • $40,000 USD: Karaoke with Extra Emily

  • $50,000 USD: Ice bath

After hitting his goals, Mizkif dyed his hair blonde on stream with the help of Malena, sang karaoke with Emily, and also jumped into an ice bath for a few minutes.

After hitting $80,000 USD, Mizkif said, “$80,000 dollars from the Mizkids are going to Turkey and Syria, chat. Thank you so f***** much for that. Seriously! Thank you, thank you, thank you. Shoutout to Malena, Brit, Extra Emily, for all coming to my stream and sh**... I’m proud of you, chat…

The charities that benefitted from Mizkif’s fundraiser are CARE Turkey, CARE Syria, AKUT Association & Ahbap.

One Redditor pointed out Twitch’s involvement in these impactful fundraisers. They commented on a post, “Nice! Twitch continues to prove itself as a great platform for fundraising.

While a handful of people stated that $80,000 USD was not a huge amount, another Redditor reasoned, “Any funds raised to the cause is a good thing. People who compare streamers or even corporate donations with each other are just disgusting. It's not a competition.” Another user wrote, “People need to realize that 80K USD is already a lot, but given the state of the Turkish lira it’s an enormous chunk of money. Every bit helps.

Mizkif is not the only Twitch streamer to raise money for Turkey and Syria. On 9th February, Hasan “HasanAbi” Piker's community successfully raised $1,000,000 USD to aid the relief efforts and rescue operation.
