With the Major slowly approaching, the tournament's organizers, Epulze & 4D Esports decided to announce the group stages via a live group stage draw. The first Major of the 2023 Dota Pro Circuit season will soon begin, allowing new rosters and organizations to truly test their mettle against some of the best teams in the world at the upcoming Lima Major in Peru.
The first ever South American (SA) Major takes place from 22nd February-5th March and features eighteen of the best teams from all over the world.
Groups announced ahead of the Major
With the Major slowly approaching and the teams starting to travel to Peru for the upcoming Major, tournament organizers have announced that it would be doing a live stream to showcase the grouping of the eighteen teams into two separate groups.
While some viewers had slight concerns about the rather lackluster production studio set shown on the livestream, many have high hopes and expectations for both tournament organizers to provide a high quality first Major for the South American (SA) region as well as the first Major of the 2023 season.
While some of the teams are still traveling to Peru during the time of the drawing, other teams such as the home representatives, beastcoast reacted to the live drawing on Youtube.
18 teams managed to secure their spot at the Major during the regional DPC leagues and will start their respective journeys in the group stage, divided into two groups as shown below.
Group A
Group A seems to be the more balanced group out of the two, as no teams were considered as the clear favorites. However, with the presence of PSG.LGD, Team Spirit & Tundra Esports, Group A is expected to provide some high quality Dota 2 matches for the viewers to enjoy.
Group B
Group B looked to be an easy group for Team Liquid in particular at first glance, as the team dominated the Western Europe (WEU) league. However, they will face tough competition from the likes of BetBoom Team, Shopify Rebellion as well as Team Aster.
Out of the 18 teams, two of them will suffer point penalties for playing with a stand-in at the Major. PSG.LGD could not secure a visa for their offlane player, Li "项羽" Longwu in time and will be competing at the Major with Ren "old eLeVeN" Yangwei standing in while HellRaisers on the other hand will have the assistance of OG’s young superstar carry, Artem "Yuragi" Golubiev after controversially parted ways with Nikita “Daxak” Kuzmin.
