How to Download High-Resolution Assets for Diablo 4

Diablo 4 is launching this week and players can start pre-loading the game. There is an option to download high-resolution assets for the game and it adds a massive 45 GB to your download. The pack is automatically downloaded and you have the option to skip it. If you want the best possible visual experience, downloading high-resolution assets is worth it, but it comes at the cost of performance.

Should you install High-Resolution Assets for Diablo 4?

Unless you have a very capable PC with around 32 GB of RAM, a powerful GPU with 16 GB or higher VRAM, and a 4K display, the textures might not be worth it. Enabling the textures requires around 14GB of VRAM when playing on a 1440p system if all of your graphics settings are turned up. The VRAM usage will be even higher if you play at 2160p (4K).

If you plan on playing the game at 1080p, the high-resolution assets are not worth it. However, we recommend downloading the game and trying the game with and without high-quality textures. If you experience poor performance because of the assets, you can always remove the asset pack and free up 45GB of space on your hard drive.

How to remove High-Resolution Assets for Diablo 4

After your game download is complete on Battle.net, you can remove the assets from your hard drive if you do not intend to use them:

  1. Launch Battle.net

  2. Go to the Diablo 4 tab

  3. Click on the cog next to the Play button to open the settings menu

  4. You will get an option to Modify Installation

  5. You can uncheck the High-Resolution Assets to remove them from your PC

If you want to re-download the assets, you can follow the same steps and check the High-Resolution Assets in the Modify Installation menu and the game will start downloading the assets once again.
