Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) streamer Hrishav "Hrishav" Kumar said in a recent YouTube livestream that there are major issues in the BGMI esports community that need to be addressed. He pointed out that most of the tier-one teams in the esports scene do not get paid for playing in the ongoing pro scrims. There is a lack of sponsors and the ban is hurting the players and their respective organizations.
Sponsors are unwilling to support most of the current teams
Hrishav said, “80% of the players from tier-one teams do not receive salaries. Even though some of the teams are playing well, esports organizations that do not diverge into content creation as well will not sponsor the teams.”
He pointed out that even players like Saumya “Saumraj” Raj are unable to get a salary despite competing at the highest level and participating internationally in the past. A lot of the current lineups participating in the scrims are not sponsored.
Enigma Gaming and Wild Fangs are also not paying salaries according to him. He revealed, “Five or six teams may be sponsored and the other 20 teams have players covering their own expenses which is not good.”
BGMI was the biggest crowd-puller in Indian esports and other games cannot match its hype. It has been around ten months since the game’s ban and there are no signs of a return. S8UL esports manager Siddhant “Sid” Joshi has expressed his concerns if BGMI does not make a return to the game.He said, “I have come to this point where I just want a confirmation of if the game is coming back or not coming at all.”
A lot of players are not sure if they should switch to a different game. Other titles have not been able to replicate the popularity of BGMI and players do not want to lose their current fanbase. Players want closure instead of anxiously waiting for answers and hopefully we receive an official statement from KRAFTON regarding the same.
