Team Liquid Ends Fnatic's 21-Match Streak to Win VCT 2023 EMEA League

After over two months of action, the VCT 2023 EMEA League has concluded with a massive upset as Team Liquid handed Fnatic its first defeat of the tournament and walked away as the champion.

It was not easy an easy task but Team Liquid managed to redeem itself following a disastrous run at the VCT 2023: LOCK//IN São Paulo earlier this year. Liquid lifted the trophy after securing a 3-1 victory, dropping the first map and winning the next three.

Unfortunately, this loss marks the end of Fnatic's incredible 21-match win streak that started in October 2022 with a semifinal win over Geekay Esports during Superdome.

Team Liquid hands Fnatic an upset loss to win the VCT 2023 EMEA League

It seems to be a night of upsets, first with Paper Rex defeating DRX to win the VCT 2023 Pacific League, and now Team Liquid taking down Fnatic to claim the Valorant Champions Tour 2023 Europe, Middle East, and Africa (VCT 2023 EMEA) League championship.

Considering all of the matches that Fnatic has played, according to vlr.gg, the team was on a hot 21-match victory run since October last year. If we were to only evaluate the current competitive season, even then Fnatic was on a respectable 16-match win streak.

It was Team Liquid (TL) who managed to stop Fnatic during the most crucial match of the season thus far, and crowned itself as the champion while also being named as the best Valorant team from EMEA.

  • Lotus - Fnatic defeats TL on its map pick with a 13-11 scoreline

  • Ascent - TL defeats Fnatic on its map pick with a 14-12 scoreline

  • Haven - Fnatic lost to TL on its map pick with a 13-6 scoreline

  • Fracture - TL defeats Fnatic on its map pick with a 13-11 scoreline

  • Bind - Series did not reach the decider map

Overall it was Emir "Alfajer" Ali Beder on Killjoy who was the best player of the grand final series having registered a K/D/A of 83/61/13 and ACS (Average Combat Score) of 245.

As for Liquid, they had a more balanced performance to offer by almost all its players.

  1. Jamppi | 66/59/32 | 191

  2. Sayf | 67/59/19 | 199

  3. Soulcas | 61/58/32 | 186

  4. Nats | 72/67/17 | 215

  5. Redgar | 62/66/35 | 190

The top four teams, Team Liquid, Fnatic, FUT Esports, and NAVI have managed to qualify for the upcoming VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo. It will be interesting to see which three teams from that tournament further qualify for the Valorant Champions 2023.
