Six New Classes Are Coming to Path of Exile 2

Grinding Gear Games revealed at ExileCon 2023 that Path of Exile 2 will have six new classes as well as a few new ascendancy classes. The core gameplay mechanics will also get some improvements and the developers are looking to improve animations and movement. The ascendancy classes that were shown off look diverse and enable new and exciting playstyles. If you are wondering what the new classes in Path of Exiles are, here’s a quick rundown of what Grinding Gear Games showcased at ExileCon 2023.

List of new classes in Path of Exile 2

The six new classes in Path of Exile 2 are:

  • Warrior

  • Huntress

  • Sorceress

  • Mercenary

  • Monk

  • Druid

The new Ascendancy classes are:

  • Survivalist (Ranger)

  • Tactician (Ranger)

  • Beastmaster (Ranger)

  • Defiler (Witch)

  • Arcanist

  • Unnamed Marauder

  • Reaver

In addition to the new classes, the gameplay systems are also getting improvements. Players now have a dodge roll ability that can be used anytime without cooldown or restrictions. It allows them to cancel animations, dodge most projectiles, and avoid enemy attacks.

A new resource called Spirit has been introduced. Spirit is used to reserve skills with ongoing effects, maintain permanent minions, and enable trigger meta gems.

The socket system has been reworked. Skill gems can now have a variable number of sockets, with a maximum of six sockets, similar to how items used to be. Items will have a fixed number of primary sockets based on their item class, instead of randomizing it. Skill gems can now be found with varying numbers of sockets and colors. The number of sockets can be upgraded using special Jeweller's Orbs, and the socket colors can be changed using Chromatic Orbs. Unlike before, these sockets are always linked, making Orb of Fusing obsolete.

Support gems can now be socketed into active skill gems. Additionally, meta gems are introduced, which can go into primary sockets and allow for socketing both skill and support gems into them. For example, the Proficiency meta gem enables socketing auras and support gems. It reduces the mana cost of all socketed gems and can also be cast to toggle all socketed auras at once.
