When Does Briar Get Released in League of Legends?

As part of the latest Dev Update in League of Legends, developers Executive Producer Jeremy “Brightmoon” Lee and Head of League Studios Andrei “Meddler” Van Roon talked about the upcoming Quick Play, the future of Arena mode, the Soul Fighter event, and other mid-season plans. They said, "When we started the Dev Update series, we recognized we needed to deliver on a number of things for players like events, more consistent communication, cinematics, game modes, and more."

One of the biggest updates they provided was about Briar, the next champion to enter Summoner's Rift. This year Riot Games already released support champion Milio and assassin darkin Naafiri. Following these two champions is a “hangry jungler” noted the company in its 2023 Champion Roadmap. This hangry jungler is called Briar and she hails from the region of Noxus.

Briar's Release Window in League of Legends

Meddler and Brightmoon stated that by the next Dev Update rolls out, players would have already met the newest champion Briar and that we shall have more clarity on the state of Arena and its future.

Soon after this short video went out, one Redditor asked on a thread, "When is Briar coming out? I need my redhead vampire waifu jungler NOW."

Replying to this, Meddler said, "You'll see her on PBE (Public Beta Environment) at least between now and the next dev update. Dev updates are generally 4-6 weeks apart, though timing will vary depending on what else is going on and how much we've got ready to talk about."

Adding more context, in a separate comment, Meddler added that Briar will be out before Worlds 2023. "I don't believe she'll be playable at Worlds however since she'll be a very recent release (possible I'm wrong on that and she'll be disabled for playoffs but available at Worlds, will check)."

Upcoming champions

Riot Games first revealed Briar in its Season 2023 LoL Pls video where it showed a Castlevania-esque building with gothic themes. Riot also noted that this champion will be a hangry (hungry+angry) jungler.

In the April 2023 Champion Roadmap blog post, Product Lead for Champions Lexi “Riot Lexical” Gao gave more information about the idea behind making this jungler hungry and also noted how Lead Champion Designer August “August” Browning saw the vision for Briar.
