Best Free-to-Play Teams in Honkai Star Rail 1.6

The best free-to-play (F2P) teams in Honkai Star Rail can vary depending on the current version of the game, your playstyle, and the specific content you're tackling. However, here are some strong and versatile F2P team compositions that you can build with readily available characters. Do note that this will take into account that you will be playing sometime between patch 1.6 to 2.1, which will grant you a free copy of Dr. Ratio.

Get Your Free Characters in Honkai Star Rail Before Making Teams 

During patches 1.6 to 2.1, you can get a free copy of Dr. Ratio just by logging in. But he’s not the only 5-star character you can get in the game. You also get a Standard 5-star character from the beginner banner. Unless you are open to rerolling your account, you cannot guarantee which character you will receive. Other free characters in the game include:

The game also grants free 4-star characters from time to time with Pela, Hook and Sushang being given away for free in recent patches. Qingque - Tingyun - Pela - Lynx (4-star Only team) 

Qingque is the strongest 4-star DPS in the game right now and she can deal devastating AOE damage. The best part is you can get her for free without spending any Stellar Jade. At high Eidolon levels, she can even out-damage Seele in some situations, a limited 5-star character. Tingyun and Pela can be purchased from the shop or you can get them through the game’s gacha system. Lynx is a free 4-star healer who you can get by completing the associated tasks starting from patch 1.6.

Dr. Ratio - Guinaifen - Pela - Lynx (Dr. Ratio Team)

Dr. Ratio pairs well with Guinaifen because of her ability to apply Burn and Firekiss on enemies. Dr. Ratio needs at least three debuffs on enemies to guarantee his follow-up attacks, which is his primary source of damage. Guinaifen can apply two debuffs and Dr. Ratio has one of his own, which allows you to have a 100% chance to deal massive Imaginary damage to enemies. 

Guinaifen - Sampo - Pela - Lynx (F2P DoT Team) 

If you want to create a damage-over-time (DoT) team that deals deals death by a thousand cuts, this is one of the strongest teams you can build. You can substitute Pela with Luka and it will allow you to have three different DoTs on enemies. The team excels when going up against three or more enemies so you can consider using this team for clearing waves of monsters while using a Dr. Ratio team for single target situations. This team can also be upgraded with characters like Kafka and Black Swan as they are 5-star DoT damage dealers who can replace your 4-star characters.
