The off-season has started to pick up traction in the Chinese region as Royal Never Give Up (RNG) have been spotted registering its newest official roster for the upcoming season. RNG had a decent competitive season, as the team managed to qualify for The International 2022 from the Regional Qualifiers while also achieving a respectable top six finish at the Riyadh Masters 2022.
While the team had a great start to the TI11 Group Stage, positive cases of COVID-19 within the team had affected the team massively as the team were eliminated from the competition in the first round of the Lower Bracket against Entity.
RNG registers new squad as it fully rebuilds for 2023
While there have been no official announcement from the organization as of yet, members of the Dota 2 community have noticed that RNG had completed its roster for the upcoming competitive season according to Valve’s official team registration page. However, the community also noticed that the organization did not retain any of its TI11 members.
According to Twitter user @Tr1H4rd3rDota2 who has consistently posted updates on the Chinese Dota scene, it was revealed that the RNG roster for the 2022/2023 DPC season will consist of the following members:
-
Luo "eGo" Bin
-
Vincent "AlaCrity" Hiew
-
Su "Flyby" Lei
-
Chong “FelixCiaoBa” Wei Lun
-
Xiao "XCJ" Chaojian
Following its heartbreaking exit from TI11, RNG were considered as one of the teams that will be affected during the roster shuffle season with Lu "Somnus" Yao seemingly announcing his retirement from the Dota 2 competitive scene following the team’s loss to Entity. Additionally, Yap "xNova" Jian Wei has already left the team to return to Southeast Asia (SEA) as he has officially signed for BOOM Esports for the upcoming season.
On the other hand, RNG’s newly registered team will mostly consist of lesser known players as it had not retained the services of either Daniel "Ghost" Chan, Yang "Chalice" Shenyi or Hu "kaka" Liangzhi for the upcoming season.
FelixCiaoBa was a core member of RNG in the 2021/2022 season however the player was released in favor of the veteran Hu "kaka" Liangzhi in the middle of the season. The duo of XCJ and Flyby previously played for Team Fusion while eGo had won the Bucharest Minor in 2019 with EHOME before spending the current year with second division team ShenZhen. As for AlaCrity, he recently played for Nigma Galaxy SEA however the player was released into free agency following the regional qualifiers.
While there had been no official announcement from the Chinese organization as of yet, its completed registration meant that RNG had officially concluded its business in the off-season, with an announcement soon to follow.
