The developers of Dead by Daylight Mobile announced major changes in March 2023, bringing it in line with the PC and console versions of the game. But this entails the existing players having to migrate their accounts and download a brand-new version of the game. While this is technically a new version of the game, all previous account progress and purchases will be transferred using the account migration function. However, if you are a player from India and are looking to download the latest version of Dead by Daylight Mobile, there’s some bad news for you.
On 23rd March, the developers stated that the game will be removed from the storefronts of Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Here’s all you need to know about the availability of Dead by Daylight Mobile in India.
Is Dead by Daylight Mobile banned in India?
On 23rd March, the developers tweeted there was a major update for the Indian player base. They wrote, “We are committed to providing a unique mobile horror experience to our global audience while also complying with regional regulations.”
The company clarified that it received an interim order from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in India. It said, “To stay in line with the interim order from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in India, we will be removing Dead by Daylight Mobile from the Storefronts. Once it is removed, players in India will no longer be able to access and play Dead by Daylight Mobile.”
Additionally, the developers said they were grateful for the support and will provide further updates on the status of the game in India as and when possible.
On Reddit, one user wrote, “Dbd m [Dead by Daylight Mobile] just got banned in India. Kudos to NetEase.” Adding further context to this post, the original poster said, “All NetEase games are banned here.”
Notably, after partnering with Behaviour Interactive, NetEase Games is responsible for bringing the mobile version of the game to Southeast Asia (SEA). NetEase Games and Behaviour Interactive opened up the re-registration for Dead by Daylight's mobile version in Southeast Asia and Japan on 10th March.
The reason why the game's mobile version will be unavailable in India is due to its connection with NetEase. In February 2022, India banned 54 apps of reported Chinese origin. The apps banned by MeitY included big tech firms such as Tencent, Alibaba and NetEase. Additionally, these were re-branded versions of apps already banned by India in 2020.
The game has been removed from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
