Members of Valorant Community Pay Tribute to Twisten in Different Ways

The impact of Team Vitality's upcoming talented youngster, Karel “Twisten” Ašenbrener, passing away on 6th June at just 19 years of age sent a wave of shock and grief across the Valorant community.

Those close to Twisten came together, sharing their fond memories of him, while others sent their heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and teammates.

Following this tragic news, players, personalities, teams, talents, and other members of the Valorant community came together to pay tribute to a promising player from Czechia in their own ways, expressing the same emotion in a variety of wholesome and heartwarming gestures.

The Valorant community pays tribute to Twisten in different ways

Players are competitive within the server, but outside they are always there for each other, this was the message that resounded loud and clear as different members of the community remembered Twisten and paid their respect to the promising star in their own way.

Shorty kills for charity

During the first international Valorant tournament of the year, VCT 2023 LOCK//IN São Paulo, Twisten had pledged to donate €25 Euros ($26.88 USD) to charity every time someone secured a kill with a Shorty during the tournament.

Among the many ideas being discussed for honoring Twisten, VCT commentator and analyst Ryan "RyanCentral" Horton's suggestion of the community continuing his pledge evoked a massively positive response.

Since then many personalities have joined this cause with their own proposals.

  • Team Liquid's former coach and current streamer, Connor "Sliggy" Blomfield, made a promise to donate €25 Euros for every shorty kill at VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo and Valorant Champions 2023 to a mental health charity.

  • Shopify Rebellion's player, Anthony "vanity" Malaspina, followed up by stating that he would donate $25 USD to a mental health charity for every shorty kill at VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo and Valorant Champions 2023.

  • Various other professional players like , Elias "Jamppi" Olkkonen, Alex "aproto" Protopapas, and Nathan "leaf" Orf, also matched the same offer as Sliggy's.

  • M80's founder and CEO, Marco Mereu, went a step up and promised that his organization would donate $100 USD for every shorty kill at VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo, Valorant Champions 2023, and Ascension.

  • The Guard's player, Michael "neT" Bernet, also said that he would be donating $25 USD to a mental health charity during VCL 2023: North America Challenger Playoffs and VCT 2023 Ascension Americas.

All-Shorty rounds by teams

On 8th June, two Indian teams, GE Fighting (Global Esports) and Velocity Gaming played a showmatch against each other on LAN one last time as part of the VCL 2023 South Asia Split 2.

To provide more context, these two teams share the most legendary rivalry in the South Asian Valorant scene, and the matches that take place between them are known as Val'Clasico.

In memory of Twisten, all players agreed to play the first pistol round of both games with nothing but Shorty.

All Shorty Pistol Round: Tribute To Twisten

A similar tribute was made by finalists of the VCL 2023: North America Challenger Playoffs, M80 and The Guard, as they too decided to play the first pistol round on Fracture with Shorty.

The teams went on either end of the rope and then made their way to the other side one by one while dueling with the Shorty on the way.

Honored during the VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo

During a segment right before the live broadcast of the tournament, desk hosts, Yinsu "Yinsu" Collins and Alex "Goldenboy" Mendez paid tribute to Twisten while offering condolences to his family and friends.

They also requested those suffering from mental health issues to reach out for help and everyone to consider donating to the European Alliance Against Depression and Take This, to raise money for suicide prevention.

Beyond Valorant, a tribute from CS:GO and esports

The homage towards Twisten went beyond just Valorant and extended to the whole of esports with CS:GO teams, Vitality and Heroic, finalists of BLAST Premier: Spring Final 2023, observing a moment of silence before the start of their match yesterday on 11th June.

There were many other heartfelt condolences, wholesome messages, and tributes made by members of the Valorant and Esports community in memory of Twisten. A tragic moment that once again reminded us all of the importance of mental health and united everyone's efforts towards raising more awareness and funds for those affected by it.
