Minecraft lets you tame a variety of domestic and wild animals but foxes are arguably the cutest pets that you can have in the game. They are easy to find and can attack mobs that try to hurt you. Here is a quick guide on how to find, trap and tame foxes in Minecraft. The method works in the latest 1.19 update and the guide will be updated in case there are any changes to the trapping and taming systems in update 1.20 later this year.
Where to find foxes in Minecraft
Foxes are usually seen in groups of two to four and their appearance changes depending on which area you are in. They are easy to locate in Biomes and here are all of the locations where you can head to in case you want to trap a fox:
-
Grove
-
Old Growth Pine Taiga
-
Old Growth Spruce Taiga
-
Snowy Taiga
-
Taiga
How to trap foxes in Minecraft
Before taming a fox you need to trap it first and befriend it. You do not need any special gear to trap foxes in Minecraft. Since foxes sleep during the day, you can just sneak up on them and build walls around them.
Make sure you do not accidentally hit them else they will wake up. Setup two-block high walls on all four sides around them and you should be good to go. You can trap multiple foxes at the same time as they’re usually close to each other. Ideally, you want to trap two of them at a time, which will allow you to breed more foxes.
Taming foxes in Minecraft
To tame foxes in Minecraft, you need to feed them glow berries or sweet berries. Once you feed two foxes in the same enclosure, they will fall in love with each other and spawn a baby fox in a matter of seconds. You can now feed the baby fox to accelerate its growth or you can simply wait for it to grow up.
While the foxes you entrapped will still be afraid of you, the baby fox will grow up and have your trust if you keep feeding it. Foxes DO NOT follow you home so you will need to put a lead on it to keep it in one place.
Once you level up a fox’s trust, there are all the mobs that it can attack:
-
Blazes
-
Cave Spiders
-
Drowned
-
Endermen
-
Endermites
-
Goats
-
Pandas
-
Husks
-
Phantoms
-
Pillagers
-
Ravagers
-
Silverfish
-
Skeletons
-
Spiders
-
Strays
-
Vexes
-
Vindicators
-
Wither skeletons
-
Zombies
-
Zombified Piglins
You can earn the trust of multiple foxes in Minecraft and breed them to get even more foxes. The breeding process is the same as trapping and you just need to keep two foxes in an enclosure and feed them berries to enable love mode between them.
