Sunbhie Compares Coaching EU & SEA Players

Following his arrival to the team’s bootcamp prior to the start of the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) Southeast Asia (SEA) 2023 Tour I: Division I, Talon Esports’ coach Lee "SunBhie" Jeong-jae talked about his move to the team amongst other things in an interview.

After his three-year stint with SEA powerhouse Fnatic, SunBhie decided to pursue other opportunities by following former Fnatic captain and offlaner Anucha “Jabz” Jirawong to Talon Esports while also reuniting with carry Nuengnara "23savage" Teeramahanon, having worked with the player during his short time in Fnatic during the 2020 DPC season.

Sunbhie thinks EU players tend to have bigger egos in comparison to SEA players

During the interview, Talon Esports’ coach SunBhie talked about the differences between coaching EU players and SEA players. SunBhie previously spent three-years coaching Team Secret from 2017 to 2019 before moving to the SEA region.

Sunbhie started off by saying that EU players tend to be more carefree and have bigger egos. While he believes it is not necessarily a bad thing, he noted that it tends to cause issues from time to time.

“EU players tend to be more free and they have bigger, stronger egos. It’s not a bad thing to have but these players tend to be more individualistic [which could cause issues from time to time].”

He then went on to talk about coaching SEA players, where he categorized them as being more structured and easier to work with.

“SEA teams on the other hand, tend to be more structured and top-down. I think they are easier to work with [compared to EU players], more disciplined and you can sort of whip them harder to bring the best potential out of the players.”

He then ended the discussion to explain about the coach’s responsibility within a team while also praising Kurtis "Aui_2000" Ling for his coaching style with Tundra Esports.

“However, coaches in the grand scheme of things in a broader stroke are pretty similar [when it comes to coaching players from different regions]. I think Aui_2000 talked about how to coach teams and what are the coach’s responsibilities as well as their function within the team, and I totally agree with what he said 100%.”

Talon Esports will debut its new roster on 8th Jan 2023 in the DPC SEA 2023 Tour I: Division I, with Execration being its first opponent in the regional league.
