Monet Talks About Playing With New Midlaner & Coach

Following Team Aster’s 2-1 victory against Knights in the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) China 2023 Tour I: Division I, carry player Du "Monet" Peng was approached  for a winner’s interview. During the off-season, Team Aster was forced to make roster changes in the midlane following Zeng "Ori" Jiaoyang's surprising retirement announcement. Additionally,  Zhang "LaNm" Zhicheng stepped down from his position as the team’s coach following the end of the season.

However, Team Aster found new replacements in both positions by promoting Zhai "Xyw" Jingkai into the main roster while also recruiting Bai "rOtK" Fan, one of the most respected coaches in the Chinese Dota 2 scene.

Monet thinks that Team Aster needs more time to understand rOtK’s coaching style

During the winner’s interview, Team Aster’s Monet talked about the recent roster changes within the team amongst other things. He started by talking about playing with his  new midlaner Xwy and new coach rOtK. However, he noted that most of the recent changes within the team can be attributed to rOtK’s coaching style.

“I think there is a lot of difference when it comes to playing with a new midlaner and coach. I think we had changes in all aspects of the team because some coaches like to babysit their teams, but I think we definitely need to spend more time to understand rOtK’s coaching style.”

The Chinese carry then went on to talk about the differences between playing under LaNm’s and rOtK’s guidance. However, he also pointed out that he respected both of the coaches.

“They [LaNm & rOtK] are both great coaches. But if we’re talking about coaching style differences, I think LaNm tends to spot tiny details in a player’s playstyle during a match while rOtK tends to focus more on the bigger picture, as he wants players to focus more on the laning stage of the game.”

Monet then finished off the interview by talking about his thoughts on the new roster.

“I’m still definitely trying to get used to the new lineup. LaNm used to be our go-to leader, as he was responsible for decisions outside of the game. However, we’ll try to adapt as the season goes on [with Xwy & rOtK in the team].”

While it is evident that Team Aster is still trying to solidify its synergy, as seen in its first match of the season, the team will be looking to return to its glory days from the previous season. Xtreme Gaming will be Team Aster's next opponent in the DPC China 2023 Tour 1: Division I on 8th Jan 2023.
