In all levels of competitive Dota 2, the rivalry between players often escalates, but it is generally within acceptable boundaries, when it comes to reported instances of griefing, all-chatting, and other disruptive behaviors. Recently, when 9pandas was about to eliminate Team Secret in a series of the tournament, its support player Vladislav "Antares" Kertman tipped Remco "Crystallis" Arets and then typed "ufo boss" in the all-chat. There were some discussions regarding this comment following the series, but in a recent livestream, Gaimin Gladiators' midlaner Quinn "Quinn" Callahan slammed Antares' remark. As he communicated to his Twitch chat, users should never mock any players' appearances and called Antares a “giant prick” for passing the comment at Crystallis.
Quinn reacts to Antares' “ufo boss” remark with a strong message
After a discussion about professional players' appearances was initiated in the chat, Quinn lashed out at a Twitch user. He was very explicit about not accepting such an attitude, especially towards other players, in his livestream.
Viewers passing comments to him or initiating banter wasn't a problem, since this was his livestream, but he did not make it a forum to poke fun at other players’ physical traits.
“Hey, chat. I am just going to say this. Never ever mock some other player or person in the scene’s appearance in this chat. I am perma banning you as a lesson. Never ever do that garbage in here. It is beyond unacceptable and if you think it makes you funny or cool because you can mock someone who puts ... you know their likeness has to be public because they are competing in something and you make fun of something that is out of their control, you are pitiful and disgusting.
Do not do this ever, especially in my chat. Do not ever do this heinous garbage. If you want to mock me, fair enough dude, it’s my stream. You can come in here, call me balding or stupid looking or an alien whatever. But if you do that to anyone else, you are disgusting and you are not welcome.”
To provide context to the discussion, Quinn talked about the Riyadh Masters 2023 series between 9pandas and Secret. He expressed strong criticism towards Antares for making the "ufo boss" remark at Crystallis, adding that he was shocked to witness such a culture within 9pandas.
“I also think Antares or whoever said that thing in the 9pandas team is a brain dead idiot. I can not believe that he said that on all-chat, and the culture on that team that leads someone to believe that’s an unacceptable thing to say is unreal. (What did he say?) Basically, he all-chatted something, insulting Crystallis’ appearance. I don’t remember exactly what the phrase was but basically, he was being a giant prick.”
As the game was ending, Yazied "YapzOr" Jaradat and Wehsing "SingSing" Yuen who were a part of Janne "Gorgc" Stefanovski's livestream, termed the remark from Antares as "mean."
9Pandas Chief Strategy Officer Maria "Inverno" Gunina then commented on the matter, stating that the two players had a dispute and he was allowing the community to determine if it was right to bring it to an official game.
“It's no secret how Crystallis behaves in matchmaking. So you can say they have some kind of beef with each other. Is it correct to bring this beef to an official match, is a question that everyone finds their own answer.
If you ask me, these things should stay outside of a tournament lobby. Just like "Ramdog", nicknames shouldn't be voiced on official broadcasts. But we have what we have.”
