N0tail Explains The Difference Between Watching & Playing at TI

OG founder Johan "N0tail" Sundstein recently spoke about the one thing that viewers and fans do not understand about the players playing at The International, during a live broadcast of the Monkey Business podcast. Both N0tail and OG CEO JMR Luna were joined by Sébastien "Ceb" Debs, Shannon "SUNSfan" Scotten and Troels Lyngholt "syndereN" Nielsen after Day Four of the The International 2022 (TI11) Main Event had ended.

During the live podcast, the audiences that were there were given a chance to ask questions to the panel.

“It’s harder than it looks” Notail explains the one fact that fans don’t understand about playing/watching at TI

One of these questions was directed to N0tail, as one member of the audience asked him about the one thing that fans don’t understand about watching/playing at The International (TI). Having won the championship twice and also watching from the sidelines during his break from competitive play as a coach & viewer himself, N0tail responded by saying that despite a team’s good performance during the Dota Pro Circuit season, it does not mean that they are perfect in every aspect.

“I would love to have the Reddit comments right here and see people typing “Why just he doesn't do this? He is so bad, you should buy this.” It’s like, “Bro, honestly first of all you don’t know what to buy yourself and secondly you’re there against other good players/teams and there’s 6-7 things that might affect your item purchase and your map positioning and sometimes, small mistakes do happen and good teams will punish you for it.” said N0tail.

He added on by saying that fans/viewers have to understand that players are playing with the fog of war, unlike what viewers normally see during live streams as well as other factors that could affect player’s performances during a game.

“Don’t think that we’re playing without fog [of war]. We’re playing against good opponents and casters don’t catch everything as in the full picture of what’s going on [from a team’s perspective].Like catching the picture from 10 different people’s perspective, it’s impossible and there’s so much going on in the game. Never assume that you understand everything just because you see it on the screen, because from a player's perspective it’s also what builds these incredibly beautiful moments of when something clicks in the game but yeah, it’s harder than it looks.” N0tail added.

The duo of Johan "N0tail" Sundstein and OG CEO JMR Luna will be continuing the Monkey Business podcast live in Singapore during the Finals Weekend from the 29th October to the 30th October live from the Secretlab HQ.
