Team Liquid Shatters OG’s Dreams of Third TI Title at TI11

The final day of The International 2022 (TI11) Main Event saw Team Liquid face off against a familiar foe in OG. Team Liquid ended up stomping OG and secured a 2-0 victory over their fellow Western European rivals to secure a Top 6 finish. Team Liquid had an average Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season, however a change of form has seen the team punch well above its weight during the TI11 Main Event.

Thanks to amazing performances from both Lasse "MATUMBAMAN" Urpalainen & Michael "miCKe" Vu in the series, Team Liquid will move on to face Thunder Awaken later today as the team hopes to secure themselves a top four finish.

Team Liquid vs OG: Match recap

Team Liquid had an amazing run coming up to the series, as the team qualified for the group stage from the Last Chance Qualifiers. Despite the team’s loss against Team Aster in the Upper Bracket of the Main Event, the team managed to defeat Entity in a full best of three to guarantee themselves a top 8 finish.

On the other side, OG were considered as one of the favorites to win it all at TI11. However, the team has underwhelmed at the event, barely making it to the upper bracket and later got stomped by Tundra Esports in its opening match in the Upper Brackets. After its victory over Gaimin Gladiators, many believed that OG could replicate the organization’s miracle run, albeit from the Lower Bracket.

Game One

OG started things off by drafting Slark & Leshrac for Artem "Yuragi" Golubiev and Bozhidar "bzm" Bogdanov respectively while Liquid went for Lasse "MATUMBAMAN" Urpalainen’s Drow Ranger & Michael "miCKe" Vu’s Lina as the main damage dealers.

While the first 20 minutes were even between both teams, Team Liquid had the upper hand going into the late game as the team were running over OG’s heroes all around the map. While OG did attempt a team fight near its base to turn things around, Liquid’s damage output was too high as OG were forced to admit defeat in Game One after 34 minutes.

Game Two

Being one game away from securing a top six finish, Liquid were looking to close the series as it drafted Bloodseeker, Leshrac and Broodmother as its primary cores. OG on the other hand, drafted Nature’s Prophet for Yuragi and Huskar for Ammar "ATF" Al-Assaf

While the laning phase were once again even between both teams, the game saw a repeat of Game One as Liquid were once again the aggressors, dominating the map. While OG did attempt to make plays of its own, Liquid were one step ahead of them as it slowly bled OG out. Game Two ended after 33 minutes as Team Liquid moved on to the next round in the Lower Bracket.

Following the series, Team Liquid will move on to face Thunder Awaken later today as the team hopes to secure a slot in at the Singapore Indoor Stadium main event. As for the young roster of OG, its TI11 campaign has come to an end as it joins beastcoast in being eliminated on the final day of the playoffs while also securing a top 8 finish.
