Overwatch 2 Servers Suffer DDoS Attack on Launch Day

Overwatch 2 is suffering tons of issues since its release last night with players being kicked out of the game and the queues turning into infinite loops. Blizzard Entertainment President Mike Ybarra revealed on Twitter that Blizzard is suffering from a mass DDoS (Direct Denial of Service) attack and the company is trying to address all of the server issues that are preventing players from hopping into Overwatch 2.

Overwatch 2’s server issues are yet to be fixed

Ybarra said on Twitter that Blizzard’s teams are working on server issues with Overwatch 2. A mass DDoS attack was initiated sometime around launch and a lot of players have been unable to play the game. Many veteran Overwatch players have been waiting for the sequel to release for years and not being able to log in left them frustrated.

A lot of players refused to believe Ybarra and said that it just might be the case of Blizzard’s servers not being able to handle the load of possibly millions of players trying to log in at the same time. The Blizzard Customer Service Twitter account did not mention a DDoS attack which led to conspiracy theories about Blizzard lying about the attack.

Players have received negligible content updates for three years in Overwatch and the game has maintained a track record of being very stable when it comes to servers and connectivity. Running into such problems on day one is not the kind of welcome long-time players were expecting but until Blizzard figures out what’s wrong with the servers, there is not much anyone can do besides waiting.

Service monitoring websites like Down Detector back up Blizzard’s claims of DDoS attacks as other titles like Diablo and World of Warcraft also faced similar issues in the past 24 hours. If players want to stay updated on when a fix for the server issues is available, they can keep an eye out on the Blizzard CS Twitter account. For now, you can try staying in queue and let the game eventually load you in, which is what a lot of players are currently doing to bypass the problem.
