Overwatch Legend Carpe is Reportedly Moving to T1’s Valorant Roster

Lee “Carpe” Jae-hyeok made a name for himself as a top-tier DPS player when he entered the Overwatch League, representing Philadelphia Fusion in 2017. Five years later, he is the only player in Overwatch League to have stayed with the same team for a long tenure. Carpe has not only performed well for Fusion, but he also secured South Korea the Overwatch World Cup in 2018. His contract expired earlier this year and he is reportedly switching gears and moving to Valorant after having a decorated career in Overwatch. Carpe’s move was reported by Bliz.GG and it is yet to be officially confirmed.

Carpe will be reunited with his Overwatch friends at T1’s Valorant roster

Carpe is not the only Overwatch veteran in T1’s Valorant roster. He will be joining Ha “Sayaplayer” Jung-woo and  Byeon “Munchkin” Sang-beom, two pros who have also competed in the Overwatch League. Sayaplayer played for Florida Mayhem while Munchkin played for Seoul Dynasty and Boston Uprising. 

When Carpe eventually makes the move, T1’s Valorant roster will feature the following players: 

• Lee “Carpe” Jae-hyeok

• Son “xeta” Seon-ho

• Byeon “Munchkin” Sang-beom

• Joseph “ban” Seungmin Oh

• Ha “Sayaplayer” Jung-woo

• Kim "BeomJun" Beom-jun

Notably, Philadelphia Fusion is owned by Comcast Spectacor and SK Telecom, two organizations that own T1. The move to T1 feels natural and with two of his South Korean friends by his side, the new Valorant roster definitely looks promising.

In 2021, T1 made some big changes to its roster and moved to North America (NA). But the players did not find much success in the NA circuit. BeomJun is the only player who has not played for T1 previously and he does not have competitive experience in the international Valorant esports scene. He is likely to be the substitute during the 2023 competitive season.

Sayaplayer returned to T1 last week after a one-year stint in North America. He was an impactful player for The Guard throughout the 2022 season and he might be the key to helping T1 return to its glory days. During his time at The Guard, Sayaplayer helped the team secure NA Stage 1 Challengers, an NSG Winter Championship, and also a respectable top-eight finish at Masters Reykjavik this year. 

After acquiring Sayaplayer, BeomJun, and now Carpe, T1’s South Korean roster looks fully rounded on paper. However, T1 has not yet officially confirmed Carpe’s move from Overwatch to Valorant. Fans are excited to see how the team fares in the next season and they will get a taste very soon as T1 is set to compete in the inaugural event in São Paulo, Brazil in February 2023.
