Team Liquid’s Advances to LB Finals As Vici Gaming Says Goodbye in the TI11 LCQ

With the final four teams remaining in the The International 2022 (TI11) Last Chance Qualifiers, the end of Day Three will determine the final two teams that will be qualifying to The International 2022 (TI11). While Team Secret became the first team to qualify after defeating Virtus.pro earlier today, the final spot is still available as the winner of the Lower Bracket Finals will also qualify for the biggest Dota 2 tournament of the year. With three teams in contention, Vici Gaming go up against Team Liquid in a Bo3 elimination match.

While Vici Gaming had an amazing performance in Game One, Team Liquid persevered as they swept Vici Gaming 2-1 to advance into the Lower Bracket Finals.

Vici Gaming vs Team Liquid: Match recap

While not many people predicted that Team Liquid would go far in the LCQ, the Western European team proved a lot of its doubters wrong after defeating heavy favorites Xtreme Gaming yesterday.

However, Vici Gaming are hoping to qualify themselves as they faced off against Team Liquid.

Game One

In Game One, Team Liquid went for a stable draft, as it picked up Pudge, Slark and Dark Seer as the primary cores while Vici Gaming went for a fairly aggressive draft in Juggernaut, Death Prophet and Primal Beast.

Despite an even laning phase, Vici Gaming had full control of the map going into mid game as Liquid failed to find a way into the game despite Lasse "MATUMBAMAN" Urpalainen’s heroics on his Slark. Game One ended after 39 minutes as Vici Gaming secured the first game of the series.

Game Two

With elimination now on the line, Team Liquid changed up its game plan as it picked Sniper for MATUMBAMAN and Leshrac for Michael "miCKe" Vu. Vici Gaming opted to draft Morphling, Void Spirit and Primal Beast as ways to close the distance on the Sniper.

While the laning phase is once again even, this time it is Liquid who is on the offensive as MATUMBAMAN’s Sniper and miCKe’s Leshrac were constantly running down Vici Gaming’s heroes. Furthermore, Samuel "Boxi" Svahn’s Clockwerk and Aydin "iNSaNiA" Sarkohi’s Disruptor contributed massively as the Clockwerk’s triple Rocket Flare constantly scouting out Vici’s positioning while the Disruptor made clutch Static Storm plays to give Team Liquid the victory in Game Two after 42 minutes.

Game Three

With the game now essentially becoming a Bo1, both teams are looking to play it safe. Vici Gaming retained the Morphling for Yang "Erika" Shaohan while Team Liquid picked up Shadow Fiend for miCKe and MATUMBAMAN’s signature Lone Druid in what could be their last game at TI11.

However, Game Three turned out to be a repeat of Game Two but faster as Team Liquid fully dominated the map in the laning phase. Despite Pan "Frisk" Yi’s heroics on the Grimstroke, Vici Gaming were unable to counter Team Liquid’s constant aggression as it was forced to call the “GG” after just over 22 minutes.

Lasse "MATUMBAMAN" Urpalainen had an amazing performance throughout the series, as he earned a combined 21 kills and 23 assists on his Sniper and Lone Druid in Game Two and Three.

Following the series, Team Liquid will have a final chance to qualify for TI11 from the Lower Bracket finals. However, Virtus.pro stands in its path as both teams will face off later today. For Vici Gaming however, their journey ends here.
